A couple of months since the first Freedom Convoy left Canada’s capital city, Ottawa, Ontario…
This protest was not only a historic moment for the message of freedom but also an historic moment in the history of finance. During the Freedom Convoy Canada, for the first time in a western democracy, a decentralized protocol beat the legacy financial system in distributing funds to people in need and subverted a modern theocratic political class that has grown alarmingly sympathetic to communist ideology.
Bitcoin has come a long way since Satoshi. The original team of developers helped create the modern world of decentralized finance, Bitcoin, an experiment that will fundamentally change our world. Recently, Panama has made Bitcoin legal for transactional purposes within its borders. The central bank of Cuba has adopted Bitcoin; in addition to El Salvador, the Central African Republic made Bitcoin legal tender, and Mexico is currently debating a bill that would mimic either the Panamanian or Salvadorian model in that country. For me, the journey through learning and eventually adopting Bitcoin as a part of my financial future has hit another milestone with this article. This is the first time I will receive compensation from Satoshi’s Journal for writing about Bitcoin as a journalist.
In early 2022 Canada had recently entered another stage of authoritarian lockdowns. Provincial leaders like Premier Doug Ford, Premier Jason Kenny, Tim Houston, and others all imposed radically stringent measures under the excuse of Covid-19 safety. The Ontario Premier Doug Ford passed Bill 195, granting himself radical powers to obfuscate the parliamentary process, implementing any law he chose under the auspice of an emergency, mimicking the authoritarian strategy used by Canada’s Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. Neither of these leaders, both conservative and liberal, appear to have anything but contempt for the legislative process and granted themselves near-dictatorial powers.
This led to the Province of Ontario arbitrarily imposing some of the strictest lockdown regulations in the western hemisphere. Along with these alarming changes, the Canadian government implemented Covid tracking passports and QR codes. Most businesses were forced to demand proof of vaccination to transact or face a fine. There was even talk of imposing Covid passport requirements to purchase food at local grocery stores and medicine at local pharmacies. All of this seemed to be an attack on immune-compromised individuals who, for personal reasons, opted out of receiving Covid-19 vaccines. The aggressive approach by governments forcing citizens to get vaccinated against their will, caused many to recoil out of pure defiance as they saw the government step well beyond its mandate to govern and violated the Canadian Charter of Human Rights and basic individual right entrenched in British common law since the magna carta. .
Then there was Canada’s Federal Government, led by world-renowned, blackface enthusiast, Justin Trudeau. Trudeau not only mandated vaccines, but they were, and still are, denied the freedom under common carrier laws, to board an airplane or train in Canada legally. This effectively trapps almost 7 million Canadians in Canada, preventing them from being able to visit friends and relatives outside of their local areas.
The Trudeau government has erected a digital Berlin Wall with the help of Canadian law enforcement and affiliated ministries who lack the collective wisdom to prevent another “just following orders” scenario like what occurred during 1930s Germany. In addition, the Canadian federal government had issued an RFP (request for proposal) for tenure to explore the feasibility of creating covid quarantine camps in Canada. This was beyond the temporary quarantine facilities for people who traveled abroad.
Returning to Canada was another nightmare. Upon reentry, Canadian citizens were quarantined in a facility at their expense of $2000 as dictated by the government. The Canadian government’s oppressive actions led to the Freedom Convoy and this historical moment where consensus made a case for Bitcoin and the importance of separating money and state.
The successes of the Freedom Convoy were numerous. Despite the various smear attempts by legacy media, the same media that has for over a decade attempted to smear Bitcoin, all provincial leaders were forced to scrap their Orwellian data tracking covid apps. Mask mandates soon followed in provinces, irrespective of the political bent of the leadership. However, the Federal Administration in Canada remains a severe problem and is unwilling to even listen to the demands of the majority who want a return to normalcy.
The Trudeau government has not yet realized that they have lost. They have increasingly exposed themselves as an increasingly illegitimate government, with a mere 15% approval rating, relying exclusively on an arguably more illegitimate leader, NDP (New Democratic Party) leader Jacket Singh. Their recent coalition allows them to hold onto power as long as possible.
Regardless of their political goals and obsession with control over Canadian citizens at all costs, Bitcoin remains unaffected. Many still unfamiliar with Bitcoin witnessed that it still functions as intended, and governments were powerless to stop it. The desperation of state-funded media CBC (Canadian Broadcasting Corporation) ran and later retracted a story claiming that Bitcoin donations sent to truckers were blocked and seized by the government of Canada.
This video was posted by Tim Pastor, live-streamed during the convoy. It was one of approximately 100 videos taken of Truckers receiving Bitcoin donations from the Bitcoin community worldwide. It made a difference for small business owners; truckers kept their trucks, made new payments, and saved their businesses. One trucker explained profound gratitude in tears because he was unsure how he would continue to provide for his family. The Bitcoin donation bought him some desperately needed time.
Since the end of the first demonstration in Ottawa, I have been on numerous Twitter Spaces, podcasts, and media interviews reporting on what the truckers went through and how Bitcoin changed the world in a way that will become far more evident over time. The positive response has been overwhelming and remarkably consistent in the countries I have visited since March 15th. Many people came together to launch the next Bitcoin initiative related to the Freedom Convoy and the freedom movement to help elevate some of the legal expenses and additional goals related to the freedom movement..
This upcoming initiative intends to protect the individuals that were viciously smeared and slandered by many members of the legacy media in the public square. Today, however, I am most excited to contribute and earn a few satoshi’s for the first time in my life.
