A call to my fellow Democrats:

I’m a Bitcoin maximalist and a lifelong democrat.  This is a lonely path.  Most Bitcoin maximalists lean politically to the right.  Many democrats believe Bitcoin is harmful.  So why, as a democrat, do I believe that my party is capable of leading our country into the world of Bitcoin technology?

As a democrat, I believe in government.  There are those in the Bitcoin community who cringe at that statement.  But many of my fellow democrats are nodding in agreement.  Public education and interstate highways are examples of the benefits that we share.  I respect the office of the President and the people who have died to protect that office.  Justice is supported by us serving as jurors when we are called upon.  The laws that give structure to our society evolve slowly, but they do evolve.  We participate in that process by electing officials who can write the laws.  We can participate at local caucuses and knock on doors to advocate for the people we believe will do the best job and to support the issues important to us.  That is my belief.  We, meaning everyone that is old enough to vote, are the government.  Like the individuals who take the responsibility to participate in government, the government is sometimes flawed and slow to change.

My own Bitcoin journey was slow. I resisted the idea at first.  Internet money?  Show me a Bitcoin, let me touch it, then I’ll believe.  I’m grateful that I didn’t stop there.  People I respected dived into Bitcoin full tilt, so I gave it a chance.  I read and listened to everything, people who supported Bitcoin and people critical of the technology.  I spent time learning about the Federal Reserve and the origins of money.  I know more about the government, the banking system and investments than I ever had learned in my traditional educational journey. Education takes time and a desire to understand.  Fortunately, I was willing to have an open mind and take the time to learn.

I could touch on each area that has inspired me to change.  Short articles and click-bait are the norms.  But I would do a disservice to try to summarize the hundreds of hours that I have spent in the quest to understand.  Instead, I pose some questions to my Democratic friends.  Renewable energy sources have been around since the seventies, why have they not taken off and ended our reliance on fossil fuels?  In inflationary times, who gets hurt the most?  As I attempted to answer these questions honestly, I found how Bitcoin and the work that people are already doing are bringing the change I hope to see.

This is why I believe my political party will come to support Bitcoin.  Democrats appreciate education.  Someday, being a Bitcoin maximalist and a democrat will be as common as being a teacher and a democrat.  Democrats will understand the benefits that only Bitcoin can offer.  We share a belief in the government and what we can accomplish when we work together.

Our government is for all of the people.  Bitcoin is also for all of the people.  It really is that simple.   Please take time to learn about Bitcoin.
